Northumberland Day 5

Before heading home we planned to do a small walk around the Greenhaugh village.  The "Greenhaugh and Thorneyburn Walk" had its own guide and was even advertised in the village.  The route was fine for the first part along roads.  At the little church we saw a red squirrel and a bit later stopped for chat with a lady outside her house.  It was formerly the school and upon retirement they had moved from the Thames valley to do up the place.  It had proved more of a problem than they had bargained for.

This lady pointed out that sign for the route over the stile was not pointing in the right direction.  We followed her advice.  It was wrong!  We retraced our route to the stile and worked out that we had, in fact, chosen the wrong stile anyway.  The right stile took us . . . . nowhere.  The path disappeared as did an alternative we tried.

We retraced our route to the car and set off for home.
