The main reason for my visit to Newlands was to photograph the Women's 1st Team game, but I was early enough to catch a fair bit of the start of the Women's 2nd XV game.

My visit to Newlands was timed to catch roughly the first half of the Women's 2nd Team game. They were delayed by Men's 2nd Team game going on longer than expected. I used the extra time to catch a few pictures of the men.

Rather than travel directly home we opted to go via Strata Florida Abbey and the Cors Caron Nature Reserve.

A wet day. Very wet. Very, very wet. Our first excursion was to visit the Elan Valley reservoirs. Not only was it raining but the reservoirs were miserably low due to maintenance work. When we reached Rhayader we turned around, retraced our route and carried on to Aberystwyth. There we experienced a maze of little roads, parked cars everywhere and had to go right out the the harbour before finding a spot to park. We managed a brief walk around the harbour before the heavens opened again!

The main walk of the day was to the source of the Rheidol Rinver - Llyn Llygad Rheidol Reservoir. This was a long walk along a track used to give access to the reservoir itself and just as we arrived there were three water board personnel just leaving. Later we had a small walk around the main reservoirs - used for hydro power generation.

A dull day. Firstly a walk along the beach at Aberdovey then a visit to the red kite feeding place. Lots of kite pictures taken - very few successes!

A damp day with some lovely sunbursts. We opted to tackle the lower slopes of Cader Idris. These proved too steep for us and we didn't do very much on either the Minffordd Route or the Pony Path. However, we did have a good long walk along the road from the Pony Path car park.
Fourth night of four at the Ty'n y Cornel hotel.

First a walk along both sides of the Torrent Path and then a stroll along the north side of Tal-y-Llyn. The Torrent Path was a delight - time spent looking for things to photograph. Without the need to keep moving it could have been extremely productive. Decent shots of the torrents were only really any good on the west side of the stream/river. Yesterday's winds had made the acorns drop making the paths like walking on marbles!
Whilst going along the Tal-y-Llyn path we were entertained by the RAF!

A wet and windy day. We needed full waterproofs and walking boots for a brief visit to Barmouth. We were able to shelter behind some public toilets to get a few pictures of the Barmouth Bridge and the town. The wind was blowing sand off the beach and it was so strong that it was difficult to walk! Our visit was very brief.
We were fairly confident that the wind would not blow Harlech Castle down, but it was strong enough for it to have closed for the protection of the public. We took a few pictures in the town and then drove around to see if we could get a good view of the castle - we failed!
On the way back to Tal-y-Llyn we called in at the George III hotel at Penmaenpool for lunch. Since our previous stays there it has been much changed - not all bad!

We took a lengthy route to Tal-y-Llyn to give us a chance to visit Rhyd-Ddu. Many years ago we used to leave cars there when we spent days on the Nantllw Ridge. These days the ridge would be beyond us, but we did manage a walk in the rain.

A bright but windy day. Our first stop was Mynydd Mawr with its views over to Bardsey Island. Then on to the whistling sands at Porthor - the wind and waves prevented us hearing any whistling! It was a busy beach with lots of walkers and surfers - we made good use of the little cafe. The final visit was to Porthdinllaen. We walked around the bay to the village (which was heaving!) and then around the headland to the golf course.
Third night of three at the Ship Hotel.

Day 1 of the holiday was used to travel to our first base for the holiday - the Ship Hotel in Aberdaron. The hotel was really good, our room was big and had a fair view of the beach.
Day 2 was splendid and windy. The hotel is near the beach and we spent some photographing the waves before setting off on a walk around part of the headland to the west, via Porth Meudwy. Plenty of views and lots of wildlife. With a lot of up and down paths we eventually opted to make tracks back to the village by inland routes. Later we took a long walk along the beach to the east.

HONC - Hell of the North Cotswolds - the 40th example of this annual endurance cycle event. Starting at the point where the footpath across the big field behind Sudeley leaves the Old Brockhampton Road, I moved across the field ending at the finish point in the field next to the castle's car park. From what I could make out I was only there for the time that saw the arrivals of those on the shortest route.

The match between Winchcombe 1st XI and Forest Exiles XI was abandoned due to rain. Winchcombe batted first and towards the end of their forty overs the rain had reached a level at which I gave up and left. As I discovered afterwards they gave up the game just before they had completed the forty overs - presumably very soon after I had left.
